Padre Aldamiz International Airport (IATA: PEM, ICAO: SPTU), also known as Puerto Maldonado International Airport, is an airport serving the city of Puerto Maldonado in the Madre de Dios Region of Peru. The airport oversees a small number of international commercial flights and is an important transportation hub for both passengers and cargo in southeastern Peru. The airport offers domestic flights to destinations within Peru, including Lima, Cusco, and other cities. It also facilitates some international flights, primarily to destinations in neighboring countries such as Brazil and Bolivia.
The Puerto Maldonado VOR-DME (Ident: PDO) is located on the field.
Padre Aldamiz International Airport is near some of Peru's noted ecological areas, such as the national jungle reserve of Tambopata-Candamo. Like many airports around the world, Padre Aldamiz International Airport benefits mostly from one type of traveler, in this case ecology tourists. Western doctors often warn that airport authorities require travelers to carry documentation informing about yellow fever vaccination because of its rainforest location. The airport plays a crucial role in supporting tourism, commerce, and economic development in the region, as well as providing access to remote communities in the Amazon rainforest.
While the airport itself is not directly named after Padre Constantino Aldamiz, its designation as Padre Aldamiz International Airport likely reflects the importance of the area and its history, including the influence of individuals like Padre Aldamiz in the development of Puerto Maldonado and the surrounding region.
