KARA - Acadiana Regional Airport
Acadiana Regional airport is a public airport in New Iberia, LA. It has a Class D airspace with it's tower. It started as a military field before becoming civilian in the 1960's. As it has it's roots with the military, there is plenty of wide pavement here so this airport can handle anything from 172's up to 747's. The field also boasts a lit water runway which parallels the main runway (17/35). The water runway is the feature that got me to look at this airport in the first place. This airport has some painting facilities on site and also boasts a charter helicopter service. This airport was brought to my attention based on a virtual flying club member who noticed the water runway was created as turf in the sim. Not very usable for sea plane operations!
Improvements:
- Runway 17R/35L resurfaced as water and renamed as water (17W/35W) - default airport has runway as grass
- Airport suffered from flat hangar syndrome. I added default hangar objects where appropriate.
- Night lighting added
- Runway Lights fixed (PAPI's added where missing, the approach lighting was wrong too)
- Windsock objects corrected
- Aprons added on the north side (former runway complex).
- Parking locations added to the water and to the north complex
- Taxiways updated with updated signs
- Helipads added by the charter helicopter service hangars

Enjoy flying in MN! Even though this one is in Louisiana. :)
Thank you so much for the little diamond. Now if I could only find someone who would update KLFT just to the north then I would be set.

Thank you so much! I learned to fly at this airport over 50 years ago. I went there and took pictures and built it in P3D, making hangers in Blender. However, I could never get the models to show in MSFS. I use this airfield as my home airport. Now, I have a home again, thanks to you.

Great to hear from someone else who has ties to this airfield. Thanks for sharing! I wish I had the time to learn how to make custom objects but so far I haven't invested the time. Too bad your objects from P3D don't work in MSFS. I hope you enjoy this version for MSFS though, as I've seen while creating this scenery that this airport has something for every pilot!

You're welcome. Seems like an airport that has something for everyone - sea planes, helicopters, general aviation, jets and military. Must be a lot of variety you get to see! Enjoy!
