[SU8+ COMPATIBLE] [VR READY] [MODERN/NATIVE] [CLICKABLE] [ANIMATED] [PAINT KIT]
Combining the visibility of a helicopter with outstanding slow-flying capabilities, the original concept for the Edgley EA7 Optica was as a three-seat touring aircraft. Designer John Edgley, at that time began the final aerodynamic design in 1974. The first flight was made on 14 December 1979. The engine drives a five-bladed fixed-pitch ducted fan, and the Optica is thought to be the world's quietest powered aircraft. Mounting the whole cockpit assembly ahead of the fan and engine gives the pilot and passengers 270° panoramic vision, plus almost vertical downward vision; the cockpit canopy design allows photography through the panels. Its internal
cabin permits three-abreast seating, while baggage space and positions for mounting specialized observation equipment are provided behind the seats and in the unrestricted floor area in front of the two passenger seats. Roles for the Optica are virtually unlimited, from the obvious aerial photography and surveillance patrols to traffic reporting, powerline inspection etc. and it has the ability to perform much of a helicopter's work with fixed-wing economy and range.

EA-7 EDGLEY OPTICA NAVIGATION OPTIONS:
#1 - Standard GNS530/GTX330. This option is included in the purchase and is your only navigation system by default. If you have ONLY the "gotfriends-optica" folder in your Community Folder, you will have this by default. This will be the only available option for Xbox users in the future.
#2 - Standard GTN750 (PMS50). This option requires 2 additional downloads. You must download the GTN750 Base Package (Free or Premium) and the GTN750 Replacement Add-on provided by our team. So, in conclusion, you should ONLY have the "gotfriends-optica" folder, "pms50-instrument-gtn750" folder, and "gotfriends-optica-gtn750" folder in your Community Folder. The Standard GTN750 is the basic navigation system that supports User Custom Waypoints.

#3 - GTN750 with WTT Support. This option requires 2 additional downloads. You must download the GTN750 Base Package (Free or Premium) and the GTN750 WTT Replacement Add-on provided by our team. So, in conclusion, you should ONLY have the "gotfriends-optica" folder, "pms50-instrument-gtn750" folder, and the "gotfriends-optica-gtn-750-wtt" folder in your Community Folder. The GTN750 with WTT (Working Title Technology) is a more robust package that brings you holds, vectors to final, visual approaches, missed approaches, and real-life legs in the flight plan. However, you currently can not use User Custom Waypoints. Also Working Title is a type of technology as well as a development group. This specific technology in the GTN750 is not talking about the Working Title Development Group.

I can say it fly by far better than the ORBX variant! 😊
bravetoss
Unique aircraft, built for sightseeing. Much better than Orbx version. GotFriends has also amazing support, as they invested their time to help me with my unusual request.

Hello, congrats on the payware release! It's been amazing seeing this project grow to this.
Unfortunately though, money is a bit tight at the moment. Is the freeware version still available? I'm planning on purchasing this when I have the funds, but I accidently lost my copy of the freeware version, and I'd hate to lose access to this wonderful aircraft. 😞
Got Friends 1 month(s) ago
You can still find copies of the original Freeware lingering around the web. It is not officially supported by our team anymore and we can't guarantee a bug free flight experience. If you search for "Jonx Edgley Optica MSFS" on Google you will find old archived downloads.

Hi, Got Friends,
I love the Optica, and I recently got this from the MSFS Marketplace, and was all excited...but the autopilot seems a little....well, drunk.
I have tried this plane in a variety of places, in a variety of weathers, but the autopilot can't seem to hold a straight line in NAV mode (GPS). It swings to the left and right all the time. Also, Heading hold doesn't appear to work, either. I had the heading bug set, the Heading mode was selected, and it didn't do anything.
Additionally, the Altitude hold and VS mode don't seem to work very well. It will go up, but it just keeps on going, after it hits the target altitude, and setting the VS to make it go back down doesn't work.
I've also noticed that the trim wheels, which would normally be moving on their own, as the autopilot works, don't move at all.
I don't know if I'm forgetting something, or if it's like a bug, but I've tried everything I can think of to get it to work, and it won't.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, and God bless

Thanks for the detailed pdf you sent on the GGDiscord, running some tests now KSDL-KGRM as requested in the doc
Got Friends 2 month(s) ago
Just finished testing, 1.0.2 looks solid on SimUpdate 9 on vs climbs, nav hold, and alt hold. We should try wiping what ever version you currently have (even if it is indeed the lastest from flightsim.to), clearing the content.xml and re downloading the lastest version to ensure everything is fresh. Will send more details over discord and a video clip our our testing. Cheers!

Are you still working on any updates? I am waiting for a 1st person copilot feature (I won't take it out without one) because I bought it in good faith you were adding this and it's been some time.
Got Friends 2 month(s) ago
I'll have a chat with the team regarding this today since we're having a conversation about Optica this afternoon. Cheers Jojimbo.

Thanks for the reply. If not I guess I'll have to get used to taking the dog for a fly. 😋

Is the EA-7 compatible with sim update 9?
Got Friends 2 month(s) ago
Yes! 😊

I love this aircraft when flying in VR.
Got Friends 2 month(s) ago
Thanks for the kind words! We love it in VR too! There is a super secret VR focused project we're working on at the moment that has many many Optica vibes. We're talking a full 270 degrees once more. That's all im going to hint at for now though. 😉

Great plane. This is the ONLY plane I have actually bought for MSFS, and I'm glad I did. It is such a unique "low and slow" experience that it even one-ups the IconA5 in my book. Love the little companions. ONE WISH: get the yoke working with VR motion controllers too please! (I know its extremely hard but also know with your talent you will get it working!) I bought to support your future development because I can tell you really care and have great talent, and also appreciate your high quality freeware releases.

I can only fly this plane around 3,000 feet. If I go any higher it wants to stall. The elevator trim doesn't seem to work on my velocityOne. Elevator trim stays at zero but if it does change, makes no difference. Any suggestions?
mykrode 3 month(s) ago
Thanks for your feedback Gump,
We tested the Optica at higher altitudes in Alaska and didn't experience any issues that indicate it would perform poorly outside of the data we had on the airframe. But I am curious; have you attempted to adjust weight to see if that made any difference (i.e remove the companions as they account for weight in the aircraft)?
As for trim, you can try binding your trim to a keyboard or joystick if you have one available and disconnect your V1 yoke to isolate the cause as trimming seems to work fine on our end across multiple devices (TMWH, TM1600, SaitekX52, Logitech 3D Pro and Xbox One controllers. We tested both digital and analogue bindings on these hardware, it checked out fine). We dont currently have a VelocityOne to test with so your feedback would be very useful!
Please join the GotGravel discord to share any more detailed feedback & screenshots so we can help you further. 😊
Cheers,

Thanks for the reply. No, I haven't tried to remove the companions. I will do that and also switch my VelocityOne for Thrustmaster Hotas 1 and I'll see what happens. Your model should work under VelocityOne's common setting for the quadrant. I'll let you know.

Excellent plane! Great job from the team at a very affordable price. Easy and comfortable to fly and so original. Thank you for that .

Will there be further updates? What about the sound?
Got Friends 3 month(s) ago
There will be indeed! A custom sound pack is in the works for the next major update!

Amazing, thank you.

Don't forget the copilot in 1st person. Unless there's a sekrit button somewhere I am missing? 😋

Thanks for the update 1.02.
AdamskiNZ
Simply superb!!! Great for exploring in VFR. Set the autopilot and watch the landscape roll by! Good to see the developer actively supporting this aircraft. Looking forward to more features!😋
Mister_T76
Flew this one in VR and I really like it. Looks good inside, everything nicely done and the outlook is just great.
bierchen
Great one! It's fun to fly it! Thank you!
Edit:
But I still have one question. I have installed the GTN750 from pms50.com. Before I installed the update of the aircraft, I could select the GTN750 from the overhead panel. This worked wonderfully. However, the corresponding button is no longer there. Now I only have the standard navigation system and the GTN750 is no longer displayed. What am I doing wrong?
Best regards
bierchen

Please read the new Description at the bottom of this product page for Navigation Setups. Sorry for the confusion, had to make that change for Xbox, Issues, and Ease of Development.

Very nice and steady. Thanks for this!!

Great aircraft.....but why am i hearing a C172 prop sound??
Got Friends 3 month(s) ago
Because it's using the C172 soundpack as we work on getting audio recordings from one of the two Edgley Opticas still flying.
coolmandude545
Absolutely stunning. Another amazing addition to GotFriend's catalogue, this plane both looks and handles incredibly well! The detail is top notch, and the dog and cat are a nice touch 😉
I'm excited to see the next GotFriends product, because you all are setting the standard for other GA aircraft developers.
dogsfo
I really enjoyed the Jonx Optica and this polished version with the extra features is one of my favorite low speed aircraft. Great for sightseeing & the dog lowers my blood pressure. Reminds me of my dogs when we went driving in my van. I put the GTN 750 in (the plane, not the van 😊 ) & I am loving it. You guys deserve something for all your freeware from the beginning. I hope everyone puts one in their hanger, one couldn't possibly regret it but rather should quite enjoy it, I know I am. Thanks a bunch !
