This is a simple addon that changes the ICAO type designator for the default F/A-18E from "FA18E" to the correct "F18S", and also enables the use of the pre-existing string in the localization files, allowing the text-to-speech ATC/Pilots to refer to the plane as a "Boeing F-18" instead of just "Boeing" with a missing model name. There isn't a string in the localization files specifically for an F/A-18E, (By default, the plane's config is set to use one, but it does not exist.) but there is one for just saying "F-18", so I went with that one. Extract the "OboeShoes_F18SFix" folder into your Community folder to install.
I believe this mod now may cause a conflict with the recent Maverick update: the F/A-18 is not selectable with both Maverick and this installed. Just FYI. EDIT: now works with latest update; rating applies accordingly.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, but, unfortunately, I was not able to reproduce this.
While I'm not entirely sure of the extent of compatibility this, or any modded default aircraft, has with scenarios, the F-18, including the Maverick livery, was still selectable for me with both this addon and the Maverick expansion installed.
I just released an update, but all it does is update the localization files, and shouldn't really affect anything that would prevent it from working outright. Still, it might be worth removing the old version and trying the new version of the addon, just in case something went wrong somewhere.
If the issue persists, I'm not sure what the problem might be, unless you have another addon that modifies the F-18's aircraft.cfg or something like that.

Can be used this tool to rename/correct other planes?

This addon only modifies the F/A-18E's config, specifically, but as long as a plane's aircraft.cfg is accessible, it should be possible to modify it in a similar way.
