Christoph 77 is the rescue or intensive care transport helicopter stationed at the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, which began its first service in July 1997 - initially in 24-hour operation. Between 2007 and 2019, the rescue helicopter only flew in daytime duty due to a decision by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, since then it has also been used at dusk and for this purpose also manned by an emergency paramedic from the DRK.
The operator is ADAC-Luftrettung GmbH, which also provides pilots and on-board technicians. The flying emergency doctors are exclusively specialists from the Clinic for Anaesthesiology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, the responsible rescue control center is the Mainz rescue control center.
