Rookery Farm Microlight Strip, South Gloucestershire. EGQX.
This is a microlight strip near Wick, east of Bristol. It exists in the default database but lacks parking, so here's a version that's been tarted up a bit and with free parking for all. I think IRL this strip is for microlights only but I won't tell if you don't. There's the North/South 1,450 foot runway that's good for most things and there's a newer diagonal runway 05/23 that wasn't in the default version but shows up on OpenStreetMap and on newer imagery on Google Earth historical. It's a short 700 footer and 23 is uphill so pilot beware! I managed it fine in the Top Rudder but the freeware Rara-Avis Sims Whittaker struggled on that runway. Pilot beware!
I added a hangar to the south of the strip as that's where one is on the imagery. It's down a steep slope, not sure if I accidentally created that slope or if that's how it is IRL, or maybe the elevation data here is just crap. Either way it adds character so it's staying. There's a parking spot down here inside the hangar but it can be a tight fit for larger planes. There's another parking spot up the hill near the runway which you can use instead. I tried adding one by the glider hangar next to the static ULs but its on a slope and as a lot of MSFS planes start with the brake off you just end up rolling backwards which is not ideal, I could terraform the section but I'm crap at that so I just canned the idea.
There's a small stream running near by this strip but as usual with MSFS it gets rendered as a massive river 10s of feet wide which looks absurd. You can hardly even see the river on the aerial imagery as the trees on the banks mostly hide it so I just removed the watermasks for the river for a couple of miles as it as annoying me. I added cones along the runways although there's no evidence of them on the aerial imagery. I just fancied putting some down there.
Dave's 3d libraries and BeeKay's animal library are just there to add some farm animals in the surrounding fields, if you don't want them then you can skip those libraries. Ethnicf's vehicle library can also be skipped if you like as it just adds a few cars and Land Rovers about, and totof's aircraft library adds static ultralights and small planes to the airfield as well to liven things up so it's also non-essential. The other libraries are essential for hangars, fences and tat etc.
KNOWN BUGS: For some reason I keep on getting the hedgerows hovering 1-200 feet in the air when I load in. Dunno if it's happening for anyone else as it also happens to me at Chase Farm and nobody else has mentioned it yet. Anyway if it happens to you just wait a bit and they should return to earth. Dunno what's causing this problem.
Hope you enjoy yet another small airstrip around Bristol. This is my 7th now, go check out my earlier 6 and check more that will follow. Also go check out EGYF Avon Lane by PipsPriller to the south.
